I suspect and hope that profit is the motive. If Comcast had the ability to serve close to 100% of homes and businesses with internet, it could give them a competitive edge were they to restrict the use of Stringify only to Comcast users. I'm not able to think of a way Comcast could profit by restricting it's use to their customers in today's environment. It seems more likely to me that they'll include it for their customers, and charge others for it's use. Their move towards home automation is an area in which they would be able to sell cloud connectivity between devices to anyone who wants to pay for it. The devolution of net neutrality may play into this now, too, but that will take time to work through. I'm more concerned about competition, or rather, the lack of it.
